Back in the summer, we borrowed the Noisy Orchestra book from the Library. It takes you through each section of the orchestra, with each button playing a section of a melody. Certain instruments are picked out and illustrated. At the end, when the whole orchestra comes together, you can hear how each section of the orchestra works together to create the music.
Ben absolutely loved this book. He had only heard it read through a couple of times before he knew certain words and phrases off by heart, and we only returned it to the library when another family had requested it.
Since then, we’ve watched the CBeebies prom, which again, he loved, and I’ve thought about taking him to something similar. In the run up to Christmas (and now I’m on maternity leave), I’ve found the following options.
The Lowry, Salford Quays, Manchester
Mr Popper’s Penguins – I love the sound of this, and it sounds perfect for a wintery treat for Ben. Songs, puppets and penguins!
The Wind in the Willows – I think this might be better for older children, but a great first proper musical play.
The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
The Snowman – This would be incredibly Christmassy, plus The Snowman was a huge part of my own childhood Christmases. I do think, however, that it is very expensive. I’m gutted that their Elmer the Elephant events have all sold out, but it’ll be worth looking for other family-friendly events over the school holidays.
The Muni in Colne
Alice’s Wonderland Adventures on Ice – This sounds amazing! Ice skating, ariel acts and comedy.
I believe in Unicorns – This is adapted from a Michael Morpurgo novel, which, frankly, is enough for me to want to see it. It’s a play about the magic of reading, and while I think Ben is a bit young for it yet, sounds brilliant.
The ACE in Nelson
Little Frankenstein Another play that sounds perfect for the whole family involving a crazy scientist and puppets coming to life!
Preston Guild Hall
The Gruffalo’s Child This isn’t on until January but I am sure Ben would love it!
The Snow Queen A fairy tale for the whole family – not quite like Frozen!
If you know of any more events that we might enjoy, please let me know in the comments below.
I’m linking up to Mama vs Teacher’s Imagination Matters linky as her theme for this week is Music. I’m also linking up to What’s Happened? What’s Happened? with Red Rose Mummy.
