Since we started focusing on organising our spiritual lives, I’ve felt that I missed out on an opportunity to share how to set up a prayer journal. (Can I just say, I know God cannot be organised! But I think we benefit from being organised in our prayer time and Bible study.) So today, I’m going to show you how I set up my prayer journal, and give you a free template as part of a workbook, so that you can do the same.
Why do we need to set up a prayer journal?
Several times a day, I find myself thinking, “I’ll pray about that.” When I finally find time for a Quiet Time, the chances are that I’ll have forgotten.
Also, if it’s left up to me, I’d probably just pray for my own personal needs. That’s usually for more sleep and more time! But I know I have a responsibility to pray for my church, my community and the world we live in.
Finally, a prayer journal is a great way to track your prayers. There is nothing more motivating to keep you praying than answered prayer! If I’ve committed to praying for a situation daily, it is brilliant to put it on my prayer list, and then be able to put it on a list of ‘answered prayer.’ That builds my faith like nothing else.
Isn’t a prayer journal a big commitment?
Honestly? It can be. If you’ve decided to pray for something every day for a month, then that is a commitment. You know I am not about the guilt. If you don’t pray every day, if you don’t have time for a quiet time some days, I really don’t want you to feel guilty about that. But when you do have time, this prayer journal makes it easy to know what to pray about.
Doesn’t a prayer journal take ages to set up?
Ah ha! Well, I’ve got a gift for you. In the second part of my Connect with God Workbook, I’ve designed a FREE prayer journal. There’s a page-a-week view, and you can really easily print out a few pages and fill them in.
There’s also a page for ‘Answered Prayers,’ with 50 slots to fill in. I’m excited about this – I’d love to see some of your ‘Answered Prayers’ pages filled in.
Please send me my Prayer Journal Template!
